Brazilian race driver Nelson Piquet, Jr. won the first Formula E Championship for his Team China Racing NEXTEV in the final race of the season in London. The championship actually came down to a final lap of the final race. Piquet finished in seventh place which was a high enough finish to win the Formula E Championship by a single point over Swiss driver Sebastien Beumi who had closed to within five championship points going in to the final race in London. It is Piquet’s second championship since winning the Britich Formula 3 Championship in 2004.
